Shortly after midnight, the four of us made a couple of laps around the building. It was just as dark and empty as it was almost a year before. We parked the car two blocks away and walked down the road towards the hospital. The six foot tall, chain link fence was easily scaled by all of us. We quickly made our way towards the loading area of the building. Just as before, a half meter hole in the wall was boarded up with a handfull of nails. My friend Trevor and I, pryed the board off the wall and one by one, we made our way inside. Without flashlights, you can't see an inch in front of your face. We turned on our flashlights, and this was the first view we saw... (the picture to the left). If you go left, you walk down towards the morgue. We chose to go down the hallway almost straight ahead.

Movies have an amazing way of taking places that are literally everywhere and turning them into horrific final destinations. The often times towering size and pitch darkness express an intense feeling of being alone, and being terrified... yet the actors and actresses usually have a strong draw to uncover any secrets or mysteries surrounding these places. In the city I live in, there is an abandoned hospital (pictured*) called The Charles Camsell that i've always found to be menacing. About a year ago, after checks for security and not so extensive planning, myself and three of my friends found a way in through rotted out old loading area. Once inside, we quickly became aware of how dark it was inside. The first room we came into was the morgue, I noticed to my left the stainless steel beds that slide out of the wall to hold deceased bodies. We began heading towards a large hallway on the right hand side of the room. I shone my flashlight down the hallway, there was no end in sight. The light was overcome by the intense darkness festering within the building. Suddenly, my flashlight caught the glare of broken glass and illuminated the thousands and thousands of shards of broken glass lying on the floor. At the point of this sudden burst of light, the one seemingly macho member of our group of four became overcome with fear. He began yelling "this is a bad idea!" and "let's get out of here now!" We tried to calm him down, but he was spooked and quickly ran out one of the boarded up exit doors which set off the silent alarms. We had no choice but to leave. Since then i've developed an intense yearning to return to the hospital and find my way up the eight floors to the very top... the other night (sept. 25) myself and three different friends returned to the Charles Camsell hospital... and made our way to the top.
